On the Surface:
It’s a simpler, happier, more innocent time. A lighthearted, action-packed, new golden age of superheroes. Over a hundred superbeings are known to exist. Heroes are the beloved and popular defenders of the common man.
Unbeknownst to the World, and Our Heroes:
During their recent time-traveling adventures, the Freedom Force journeyed to the Dawn of Time and encountered a black hole, whose energy was contained and harnessed by the mind-bogglingly advanced technology of Eon, the Black Celestial. The black hole was his personal power source!
It was there that they had a final encounter with their arch-nemesis, Dr. Change, the criminal mastermind of a thousand faces. In the end, Dr. Change plummeted into the black hole at the dawn of time, thereby retro-actively erasing him from the history of this universe. It was as if he had never existed!
The Freedom Force never suspected the vast scale of Dr. Change’s secret criminal, political, technological and financial empires, elaborately constructed through his many aliases. Nor did they ever suspect that he had kept himself alive since the early Victorian Era.
Subsequently, Dr. Change’s complete removal from Time has results both subtle and far-reaching. The world’s technology is less developed without his invisible guiding hand. Also, the business and political worlds are a more moral environment, without his century-long Machiavellian manipulations and conspiracies. The result is that the world now looks like a hybrid of the 1930s and the present. Zeppelins and autogyros coexist alongside jumbo jets. The world is recast in the golden age feel of Art Deco. People are friendlier and less fearful. The world is still innocent.
But, unbeknownst to the world and our heroes, none of this is as it should be.
